A crowd of 200 people, great auction prizes and the goodwill of attendees to redonate auction items after having paid for them once, helped boost this year’s Riley Nixon Charity Fundraising efforts to a whopping $21,780.
This is an increase of $11,000 from last year.
The event, spearheaded by Roadside Services and Solutions, was held at the Morphetville Racecourse with races sponsored by Roadside Services and Solutions, Plumbing & Pipeline Solutions (PPS), Bradley Painting Services, Action Line Marking, Delnorth, Daimler Trucks Adelaide and Advanced Transport Refrigeration (ATR).
Contributing to the outstanding fundraising efforts of the day was the charity spirit shown by a number of attendees who decided to reauction the items they bought to help raise further funds for Riley Nixon.
Craig McLoud of PPS set the trend for the day. When the signed Chelsea Football Club soccer ball went to auction, Craig’s bid of $1300 knocked out the nearest rival. In the second round of the soccer ball auction, Ennio Silvestri of Silvercrete bought the ball for $1500 and donated it for auction again. In the third round of the auction, strong bidding took the ball price back up to $1500 again. Hence Ennio Silvestri paying a total of $3000, Craig McLoud paying $1300, raised a total of $4300 for the soccer ball.
The Adelaide Crows football first sold to Stephen Hogan of Daimler for $500. He redonated the football and it was purchased by the team at Suez Waste Services for a further $500, raising a total of $1000.
The strong auction interest encouraged Suez Waste Services to throw up for auction a table for 10 people at a 2019 football game in the Adelaide Oval Audi Club. Scott Dornan of Action Linemarking took out the prize with his first round auction bidding of $1400 and then redonated to claim the prize again for $1500, paying a total of $2900.
The signed Adelaide Crows guernsey sold for $1500 to Paul Christie; the Adelaide Bite baseball tickets were bought by Michael Walsh of ATR for $600 and a guest on the Daimler Trucks table, known as Jane, paid $1700 for a John Platten signed Hawthorn AFL Club guernsey and $650 for the South Australia Jockey Club lunch voucher.

“The money is going in to a trust account and will be used to contribute to the cost of a set of prosthetic legs for Riley Nixon. The cost of the prosthetic legs is in excess of $300,000.
“We will be running the day again next year on Saturday 30 November and aiming to hit a target of $30,000. So save the date and come and have a good day out with us, while raising money for a very worthy cause,” Craig Woods said.
